There is a question that the Holy Spirit spoke to me about sometime back that I would like to address. Is it possible to go a full day without committing sin? First off I want to say that that question is not about our abilities or works but about who we are in Christ Jesus! We know the Bible says that when a sinner turns from their sinful ways and turns to the Works of Christ, His Crucifixion and Resurrection, as their only means of forgiveness and Eternal life through Trusting Him they will receive the Holy Spirit. By Faith in what Jesus did, His Finished work of Redemption, we are then adopted into the Family of God and become heirs of God and co-heirs of Christ. With that awesome truth I want to now address the question. Is it possible to go a full day without committing sin? Short answer is yes. Let me explain with Scripture. Galatians 5:16 “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” What did Paul just say? If we “walk” in the Spirit we will not “fulfill” the lust of the flesh (sin). I believe what the Bible says and it is clear; If we are focused on Righteousness, Christ, Holiness, the Living Word of God, we will not be focused on our flesh, sin. We always act upon what we dwell upon! We focus on sinful things we will act! If I were to say every time we “miss the mark” “fall short” “sin” is because we took our eyes off Jesus, would you question my theology or would you want to read on? I pray you read on for the icing! Listen to the following passage and see what it says concerning the topic; Hebrews 12:1 ¶ Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. 4 ¶ Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.”
We sure haven’t resisted sin to the point of shedding blood but we should, right? Yes! Why else would the Work of Jesus be important to us if it were not possible to go a day without sin? Let us read another passage; 1John 3:5 “And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.”
Have you been Born of God? If you have you will not and cannot remain or continue in sin! This is a powerful truth. If we do not have a Godly desire never to sin again I am certain you have not been Born of God! Everyone Born of God will have a new desire to be Holy as He is Holy! Having the Holy Spirit in us gives us the Power overcome the power of the bondage of sin. This does not mean we will never fall into sin. Rather it means we have the Spirit and Power of Christ to never be in Bondage again.
Conclusion of the topic can only be summarized this way; Jesus took our sin Nature and nailed it to the Cross. We died with Him and cannot be in bondage to sin any longer. We should have a Righteous conscience and not a sin conscience.
