Scripture that speaks about Repentance in OT and NT.

Old Testament

Psalm 22:26 The poor shall eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the LORD. Let your heart live forever!

27 All the ends of the world Shall remember and turn to the LORD, And all the families of the nations Shall worship before You.

28 For the kingdom is the LORD’S, And He rules over the nations.

Isaiah 55:6 ¶ Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.

7 Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the LORD, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.

Ezekiel 18:23 “Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?” says the Lord GOD, “and not that he should turn from his ways and live?

24 “But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? All the righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; because of the unfaithfulness of which he is guilty and the sin which he has committed, because of them he shall die. 25 “Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not fair.’ Hear now, O house of Israel, is it not My way which is fair, and your ways which are not fair?

26 “When a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, commits iniquity, and dies in it, it is because of the iniquity which he has done that he dies.

27 “Again, when a wicked man turns away from the wickedness which he committed, and does what is lawful and right, he preserves himself alive.

28 “Because he considers and turns away from all the transgressions which he committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die.

Jeremiah 25:4 “And the LORD has sent to you all His servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, but you have not listened nor inclined your ear to hear.

5 “They said, ‘Repent now everyone of his evil way and his evil doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD has given to you and your fathers forever and ever.

2Chroncles 7:12 ¶ Then the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: “I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.

13 “When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people,

14 “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Joel 2:12 ¶ “Now, therefore,” says the LORD, “Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.”

13 So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.

New Testament

Matthew 3:1 ¶ In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,

2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”

Matthew 3:8 “Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,

9 “and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

10 “And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

11 “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

12 “His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

Matthew 4:16 The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned.”

17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Mark 1:14 ¶ Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

Luke 24:46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,

47 “and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

48 “And you are witnesses of these things.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 3:19 “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,

20 “and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before,

21 “whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.

Romans 2:4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

2Corinthians 12:20 For I fear lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I wish, and that I shall be found by you such as you do not wish; lest there be contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, backbitings, whisperings, conceits, tumults; 21 lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and I shall mourn for many who have sinned before and have not repented of the uncleanness, fornication, and lewdness which they have practiced.

2Timothy 2:19 ¶ Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

2Timothy 2:23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

2Peter 3:9 ¶ The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Revelation is also filled with the call to Repent. Jesus speaking to “Gentile” Churches in chapters 2 and 3 Calls these Christians to Repent. So with the overwhelming volume of verses in the Old and New Testaments concerning Repentance, it is safe to say, If God Calls us to Repent, He has enabled mankind to do just that! All the Old Testament Prophets, John the Baptist, Jesus the Christ, Paul the Apostle, Peter the Apostle, John the Apostle, all have the same theme of Repentance, do you think this is God’s Word Proclaiming the need for repentance? ABSOLUTELY!

Top 5 reasons I will NEVER accept “America’s” version of Christianity.
1). It does not EXALT the Deity of Jesus Christ!
2). It does not emphasize the necessity of Repentance and true Faith in the Work of Jesus Christ done on the Cross and His Resurrection!
3). It does not emphasize Personal Holiness!
4). It does not care if it “offends” God’s plan for Salvation but only cares if it offends sinners!
5). It Reflects Worldliness instead of Fruit of the Spirit, which is Righteousness as manifested by the Indwelling Holy Spirit.

1. Love (affection or benevolence)
2. Joy. (cheerfulness, i.e. calm delight)
3. Peace. (prosperity:–one, peace, quietness. No need for Drama)
4. Longsuffering. (fortitude. patience)
5. Gentleness. (morally, excellence in character or demeanor)
6. Goodness. (virtue or beneficence)
7. Faithfulness. (moral conviction. reliance upon Christ for salvation)
8. Meekness. (Humility)
9. Temperence. (Self control)

Many of you pray for my wife and I and the Churches we Pastor, Thank you! Felt like sharing a little history about both Churches we Pastor. First, the Camden Southern Methodist Church. In 1977 three Godly gentlemen and their wives were “fed up” with all the “liberal” theology in their previous Churches. They got together and started a prayer meeting in a local restaurant in Camden S.C. called DeBruls. They and their wives met each week for prayer and some Scripture readings. Determined to be used by God for his Purposes they sought the Wisdom of God. Well God led them to an old beer joint\convenience store located on Haile street. The store had already been bought by a previous congregation who renovated the building. Their numbers dwindled and they decided to sell. The door opened for the Lord to answer the faithful prayers of a few of His Children. Determined as never before, they pulled their resources together and bought the property. The First Southern Methodist Church in Camden opened their doors for Ministry. The Camden Church struggled for some time keeping Pastor’s. All previous Pastor’s stayed on average of 1 to 2 years. The longest Pastor Ministered for 5 years. Camden Church is so Thankful to God for each of them and their wives. But the Camden Church needed more stability, so again, they sought the Lord. Then the Spirit of the Lord called me to be their Pastor in August of 1996. Truly the Spirit of the Lord honored their prayers and faithfulness! What a remarkable body of believers! Truly there is a Spirit of Revival! Camden Church knows they may have few numbers but God is a Big God! Tell anyone at the Camden Church they are too small to be of any service to the community and the Camden Church will Preach the Powerful name of Jesus Christ! The Camden Church has been through many trials and discouragements since they started praying in a restaurant many years ago but they are Solid as a Rock knowing why they are here in this Community! Many in the community would testify of the spiritual influence of this Body of believers if prompted! The Holy Spirit is Alive and Working on many hearts! For that, we are thankful! God is truly Glorifying Himself through this Body of believers! A Scripture that influenced the Camden Church the most through the years and could serve as a Church Foundational Statement; Revelation 3:7 ¶ “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; 8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.”

My wife and I love the folks deeply and will remain faithful to the Lord Jesus until He Comes or moves us! Thank each and every one of you for your prayers and support as we continue to seek the Lost, care for the needy, encourage the brokenhearted and see lives Transformed by the Power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Now the second Church we Pastor, Enon Methodist Church. The history and testimony of the Enon Church goes back to the 1930’s. The believers that started the Enon Church saw many revivals take place in the late 30’s and 40’s when it was located on the current property of Fort Jackson. It came to my knowledge that Ft. Jackson was the largest Army training base in the United States. Because the Army base was growing and the need for more property arose they requested the Enon Church relocate! The congregation agreed and Ft. Jackson paid for the Church building to be moved to its current location. As a token of the many souls changed for the Glory of God the Army donated an old Army barracks that is still being used as the fellowship hall and Sunday school rooms! What is more interesting is the history behind the Enon Church cemetery. Many members went to the Enon Church for services and many were laid to rest in the “Old Enon Church cemetery” which currently is still located on federal land. The Church was moved but the original cemetery is now part of a National Cemetery! As you can imagine the Enon Church has a rich history of military families. So many have come and gone through the years but Enon remains dedicated to the Message of Salvation through Faith in Jesus Christ! Many have ask me since I became Pastor in 1999, where did the name Enon come from and what is the meaning. Well the name Enon was originally spelled Aenon as in the Biblical account found in John chapter 3. 22 ¶ “After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.

23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.” The name Aenon literally is interpreted “place of springs.” When the members came to form this body of believers they applied this passage to their Church and proclaimed; “Come to Enon and be filled with the springs of spiritual waters”, referring to the Holy Spirit that is Present among its membership! This has not changed and currently the Holy Spirit is alive and Moving amongst Enon’s congregation! My wife and I Love being Pastor of Enon. No matter how long it takes, no matter how hard things get, there will always be “plenty of water” at Enon.

A True Love story

We know God is Love…..Agape’….. We should never want anything but Agape’….. We should never want the worlds version of Love. Why? Because the worlds version of Love is nasty, disgusting and Vain! The world views love through the flesh only and cannot see past its own self-centered, self-seeking, self-gratifying, seductive mind! But True Love is defined in the Bible and is the Kind of Love that can Only be achieved through Jesus Christ! His kind of Love is Pure, Holy and Righteous! Our hearts should yearn for Jesus kind of Love! Seek His Love O my soul! Should always be our prayer! The Bible teaches us to Draw near to God and He will Draw near to us. Well drawing near to our Father is up to us. Seek God with a Pure heart (not perfect) and we shall find that our Heart’s need to be Stretched out in order to receive more Agape’…Holiness and Purity…..This we know is Agape’ Love as expressed by Jesus Christ! His Crucifixion and Resurrection!

When Jesus Called me to Minister to the Souls of men it shook me to the Core of my being. I had to get to the place where I was willing to die for the ones He lead me to Minister too. Why? Because Jesus died for them! If Jesus Loves them enough to die for them then I must think highly of their souls worth! This Holy and Pure Love we seek within our hearts can only be explained by Holy Scriptures…..1Corinthians 13:1 “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Yes, NOTHING! Agape’ Love is more Vast than the Universe. The Universe cannot even Contain Agape’ Love because God is Love and He contains the Universe. Do we want that kind of Love? Do we want our hearts Stretched with His Love?

For greater understanding of the Love we seek let us continue! 1Corinthians 13:4 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails”….. Love is patient, are we patient in His Eternal Purpose? Is longsuffering a desire we have? The Lord Jesus “suffered long” for us and we should also seek His patience! Without patience it is not true Love! Love is kind. The Greek definition of kindness is simply; to show oneself useful, i.e. act benevolently. So, if we are seeking Agape’ Love we MUST show ourselves useful to others. Love does not envy (desire or be jealous over). If we seek Agape’ Love it cannot be envious! If it is, then it is of the flesh and is not Agape’! Love does not boast (meaning to Brag). Agape’ is NOT of the Flesh. Love is not proud. (Puffed up). Love is Humble. Always agrees with God! Always submits! Are we seeking True Love? Then Humble your-Self! Love is not rude. Are we rude? Then we are not in Agape’! Love is not self-seeking. Are we seeking self gratification? Then we are not in Love! Love is not easily angered. Do we find ourselves becoming angry with God? Angry with our spouse? Then we are not in Agape’ love with God or our spouse! Notice it says “easily angered.” Here is the Greek definition; to sharpen alongside, i.e. (figuratively) to exasperate:–easily provoke, stir. If we are easily provoked then we may be self-seeking and not in Agape’! Why? Because Love does not hold record of wrongdoings! God never keeps a record of our sins! He washes them away in Jesus’ Blood! He remembers our sins no more! So if we seek Agape’ Love we need not to remember our sins or our spouses! Otherwise we may use their wrongs against them if we are easily angered! This is NOT Love! Agape’ Love we seek never delights in evil but always Rejoices in the Truth. If we every find ourselves in sin, let us repent and rejoice in True Love that washed them away! Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Because Agape’ Love never fails!

Do we seek Love? Agape’ Love? If not, we need to Repent!! Because True Love is the only thing that will satisfy your longing soul. There is not enough money, sex, drugs or anything else this world has to offer that can fill your heart! God wants to fill you up with His Love. Let Him! Turn to Jesus Christ the Only Begotten Son of the Living God! Believe that Jesus was Crucified for you and He was Resurrected from the Dead! That is the what Agape’ Love did for you! Believe it and be Satisfied!
